Social Media Is Dead: What we call social media is anything but. But not so fast! Is this really true? |
Social media, as we know it today, actually started in 1997. The first real platform was Six Degrees. This platform allowed users to create profiles, make friends, and send messages. Unfortunately, it was ahead of its time and not widely accepted by the public. It was unique because it was designed for people to connect using their real names, rather than anonymously.
Social media really began to take off from 2003 to 2005, with the launch of the big boys. Among them are, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit and Facebook.
These platforms were something people had never before imagined, and everyone who was using one of them felt like they had been reborn. Life in the social media fast lane was the closest thing to perfect that anyone had ever seen.
The most important thing about it was, people were having a great time, and really enjoying themselves.
But what has happened since then? It's really kind of sad to think about.
People are not happy. And this is not just a few people. The majority of people who loved social media in the past become so sad every time they log in.
Someone posted how they feel on one of the big platforms. Take a look:
The person who posted this asked the question, "What happened?" I know exactly what happened.
Social media is a business. A business has three purposes, in this order:
There are numerous multi-millionaires out there who had no intention of making a dime when they started their business. Take a look:
Owning a business is very difficult. At times, it can be brutal. But the one driving force that helps people do it is, passion. As brutal as it can be, if you have passion, you will enjoy every minute of it.
But the fact remains, serving the public is the number one reason for owning a business. Unfortunately, the owners of many social media websites have completely lost their desire to serve the public, and also, their passion. If the passion is there, the public will be served. This is what has happened, but there's more to it, and it's not very pretty.
The owners of some (but not all) of the big social media platforms who have lost the confidence of their users simply don't care. They figure, "Since I've made it, and am set for life, the heck with the people who helped me get there!"
You don't have to be a scholar to figure this out. There are things going on in social media that often make me scratch my head. With even the simplest things that are problematic for users, I ask myself, "Why don't they do something about this?"
They're not going to do anything about it when their users have problems, because, they don't care. It's not their problem.
It has become a power struggle ... "How much can I get from the other big tech companies for the information I have? ... How many special interest groups can I benefit from?
"What can I do today to influence society. There's no particular reason I want to do this, other than, I CAN!"
Showing advertisements where they should be showing user posts makes them money.
Allowing spammer sparks controversy, and gives them power.
Posting controversial posts and political satire causes a reaction from users, and this gives them power.
Selling your profile information to big tech companies and advertisers makes them money.
You know the rest!
When we created SurfSideSafe, we did it for five reasons:
Did you see anything in this list about making a profit? You didn't, and you never will. All of the reasons have to do with making our users happy. And if we do this, and love what we do, every thing else will take care of itself.
It took us two years to create SurfSideSafe. This includes creating the apps, and setting up our servers. At times, the work has been brutal, but we've loved every minute of it.
SurfSideSafe is not a scam. Do you think we would have put our hearts and souls into something as horrible as a scam? Not a chance!
SurfSideSafe is a platform that people need today. Take a look:
Our users will interact with other users they meet.
They will read and share interesting content, and not a bunch of trash that will make them angry. SurfSideSafe will always be a happy place.
Every piece of content will be posted, unless of course, it is flagged by more than one user. What offends one user may not offend others. But if more than one user is offended, then that's a different story. We do not ghost content. This is one of the most vicious things that social media platforms do.
If you run a Google search for a particular product, you will not see an ad for that product in the places where you are supposed to see posts by users.
We have created an excellent platform for businesses. In the future, you will get a lot of exposure for your business. And, by the way, we do allow users to post affiliate links.
Another feature you will like, if you run a business, is, we allow users who have a business page to boost up to three posts, at no charge. This is per page. If you have ten pages, you can have 30 boosted posts. If you have a business, you will love this.
We have a excellent MarketPlace, where you can sell anything you want to sell, legally of course. Our terms and conditions covers this. And yes, you can post affiliate links on our MarketPlace.
Before we created SurfSideSafe, we did a lot of research. We have tried to enhance the things people like about social media, and eliminate the things people do not like about social media. There are features that you have never seen on social media. If you become a user, you will see what I mean. And we have made everything about SurfSideSafe easy for our users, at least, we have tried to.
Of course, there will be changes made as the years go by. But these changes will be made to make SurfSideSafe even better. We are what social media used to be like, and we will always be this way. I don't care who approaches us. We are NOT FOR SALE!
Finally, the answer to the question is, NO! Social media is not dead. You will soon find out that it is better than it has ever been!
And always remember, SurfSideSafe is FREE today and will ALWAYS be.
In this article, I have tried to identify the problems with social media today. I have also shown you our part in correcting this. Except for the section on how social media began, I have not mentioned the names of any of the other social media platforms. We don't want to do anything like this, but you know who they are.
I hope this article has helped you.
